Mission, Vision & Values
Inspired by God's love, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota cares for, supports and strengthens individuals, families and communities.
Lutheran Social Services will be the premier agency serving families in their homes or communities.
Lutheran Social Services is a social ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As such, we believe that God’s love compels us to serve and to value all people. Our core values are grounded by our faith in God—they guide our hands and feet, our hearts and words as we serve our neighbors as God intended. Our core values guide our work with the people we serve and those who serve them.
We will be empathetic in our interactions with others and non-judgmental in the delivery of our services.
We will acknowledge the quality, significance and magnitude of the contributions of our clients and employees and seek to develop their capacity.
We will engage in collaborative and professional relationships with our clients, partnership organizations, and each other.
We will demonstrate our commitment to quality services and high standards in acts, words and deeds.
We will anticipate and respond strategically to service trends and our communities’ needs.
The colors and design of the logo for Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota were selected out of meditation on Psalm 23. They serve as a reminder of God’s desire to bring peace and renewal to the lives of people.
Looking beyond the green letters, LSS, that form the logo’s base, one can see a dove or perhaps a ship. The dove symbolizes God’s spirit, hope and peace. A ship signifies the church, its strength and security. The small leaves sprouting from the base suggest growth and newness of life.
It all blends together to express the ultimate purpose of Lutheran Social Services—to care for, support and strengthen individuals, families and communities.
