Stepping Stones: Independent Living Skills

Stepping Stones is an independent living program located in Rapid City. Stepping Stones provides affordable housing, case management and life skills classes for youth ages 16 to 20 years old. The program provides a safe, supportive environment while they learn skills to be a self-sufficient adult. Case managers assist youth to complete educational goals, gain employment skills and develop relationships with adult physicians for mental and physical health care needs. Stepping Stones provides life skills classes that discuss many topics including:

  • leasing responsibilities
  • renters rights
  • money management
  • budgeting
  • healthy meal planning
  • job skills
  • physical & mental health management
  • transportation
  • personal safety
  • education planning
  • recreation

Referrals

Services are open to all applicants interested in gaining help to become a self-sufficient adult. Youth, parents or guardians may contact staff for further information about the Stepping Stones Program. A pre-placement interview will be scheduled to see if Stepping Stones is an option for the youth. Stepping Stones is licensed by the South Dakota Department of Social Services.
