Sioux Falls School-Based Mentor Program

Lutheran Social Services has been involved with the School-Based Mentor Program since 2001. It is a partnership between the Sioux Falls School District, LSS and the Sioux Empire United Way. For just one hour a week, mentors meet with a student at their school and begin what many students refer to as the best time in their week. This little amount of effort pays off with higher self-esteem, increased attendance and a trusting relationship.

Rural Mentor Program

The Rural Mentor Program began in the spring of 2009 as a result of a U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention grant awarded to Minnehaha County. Minnehaha County partnered with LSS to implement school-based mentoring in ten rural school districts in Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties. Mentors meet with students one hour per week throughout the school year on school grounds.
