How Funds Raised Are Used

Get Cyc’ed! is a fun way to raise support for some serious issues. Last year, LSS helped an nearly 41,000 people across South Dakota, over 2,600 of which were children. Many of these children are good kids who can’t change the abuse and neglect in their past. At LSS, however, they are working toward changing their future. It’s not easy for them. They put many hours into individual and group counseling. It’s emotionally difficult and requires so much effort to succeed.

Approximately 80 percent of the children served in LSS residential care programs are successful after completing the program. These facilities are located in Aberdeen, Beresford, Sioux Falls and Spearfish. Care at these facilities is funded through state and private sources, but there is a financial shortfall.

• Raising $500 for Get Cyc’ed! will help fund one day of care for a child.
• Raising $2,800 will help fund one week of care.
• Raising $12,000 will help fund one month of care.

This year, thousands will seek mental health counseling through LSS. We provide affordable counseling by using a fee schedule based on family income. In many communities, LSS is the only source of confidential, quality counseling.

According to SD Strategies for Suicide Prevention, approximately 7,025 South Dakota children and adolescents were identified in need of mental health services but did not receive them in 2005. We offer counseling services for the entire family because we know that healthy families raise healthy kids.

Of every dollar raised through Get Cyc’ed!, 47 cents provides for families who can only afford to pay about one-third of the cost of mental health services. Together with you, we can commit to changing the world for those who suffer.
