Giving
Through A Gift Annuity
The charitable gift annuity is often an ideal way for people who wish
to make a meaningful gift to LSS, but who also want to provide for their
own financial well-being. You can give cash, stocks, bonds, or mutual
fund shares to establish a gift annuity. You and/or someone you designate
will receive fixed payments for life. You also will enjoy tax benefits.
If you are retired, a gift annuity is an attractive way to make a charitable
gift while supplementing your retirement income.
The rates of return for these gifts are often attractive. LSS of South
Dakota uses the charitable gift annuity rates recommended by the American
Council on Gift Annuities. The rates begin at 6.6 percent for someone
age 60 and go up to 12 percent for someone age 90 and older.
For
example, an "LSS of South Dakota friend",
age 75, transfers $10,000 to LSS of SD for a gift annuity. This individual
will receive
a guaranteed annual income of $710, of which approximately $448 would
be a tax-free return of principal. This friend also will receive a charitable
tax deduction of approximately $4,433.
There
are several other options to explore with gift annuities. For a complimentary
