Volunteer Opportunities: Refugee & Immigration Programs

  • Senior Volunteer Program (55 and older)

    Mentor/Tutor
    Driver
    Tutoring: The rules of the road (classroom setting)

  • Mentor/Tutor: help refugee family in social and cultural adjustment and English communication skills.
  • Peer Tutor: help refugee students with homework. Applicable for middle school, high school, and college students.
  • Impact Volunteer: drive refugee families to doctor appointments or shopping. Refugee families that need this kind of help are without relatives in Sioux Falls, are without a vehicle, or are having other difficulties getting around.
  • English Classroom Assistant: provide individual attention to adult students in English classes under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Computer Assistant: assist students in computer lab.
  • Childcare Assistant: assist in caring for preschool children while their parents are in class.
  • Welcome Box Coordinator: gather together kitchen, bathroom, bedroom items for new arrivals.
  • Furniture Mover: assist with setting up apartments and collecting donations.
  • Clerical: assist with clerical functions.
  • Advisory Committee member: appointed by LSS Board. Advise director of LSS Refugee and Immigration Programs.
