Make A Tax-Free Gift From Your IRA To LSS
The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Re-authorization and Job Creation Act of 2010 allows people who are 70½ or older to make tax-free gifts from their IRA directly to charitable organizations. Qualifying gifts up to $100,000 can be given by January 31, 2011 and be treated as if made during 2010. This act will be in effect through 2011.
Your gift will be income tax-free and will qualify for all or part of your required minimum distribution for the year. If you have a desire to use your IRA as a charitable contribution, that gift will be most beneficial to you if it is completed before January 31, 2011. Contact LSS for sample letters instructing your IRA custodian to make a gift to LSS. Your tax advisor can also assist you. The gift will pass directly from the IRA to LSS, who will send you a letter confirming the gift.
