Each year, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota recognizes a distinguished community partner in honor of outstanding service and support to LSS.

Lutheran Social Services is honoring the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce as the 2016 LSS Distinguished Community Partner of the Year.

LSS has been a member of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce since 1985. During those nearly 30 years, the Chamber has twice supported LSS capital campaign requests and efforts. The first came in 2005, when the Chamber’s Community Appeals Committee approved LSS’ request for a capital campaign which became known as the Changing Childrens Lives Campaign. The second came in 2014 when the Chamber approved the LSS capital campaign request for the Campus on East Bank Campaign.

Without the Chamber’s support, there would not have been either the Changing Childrens Lives or the Campus on East Bank Campaign. The uniqueness of the Chamber’s approach ensures that social agency capital campaigns are properly vetted and scheduled before one dollar is raised. This approach, in existence for more than 50 years, gives strong credibility to the agency seeking capital campaign contributions when they reach out to individual Chamber members for support.

The Chamber also has helped support LSS through a variety of means for this campaign. This includes press releases, kickoff events, stories in their monthly publication and website. More importantly, more than 90 Chamber members have volunteered to make solicitations for our campaign. Several prominent Chamber members have been featured at our kickoff as well as in our video and campaign material.

The Chamber’s support, endorsement and willingness to share the LSS vision means that LSS will be able to more effectively and efficiently serve our clients for years to come and to care for, support and strengthen individuals, families and communities.

Each year, employees, volunteers, organizations, community and corporate partners and many others support LSS in a variety of ways—building a strong foundation and tradition of serving those in need. The results of their actions cannot possibly be calculated numerically. Yet their efforts are vital in helping individuals, families and communities find inner strength during difficult and challenging times. LSS is grateful for all who have given in one way or another.

Lutheran Social Services is a private non-profit social service agency. Last year, 52,001 lives were touched through a variety of services offered through LSS statewide. Core services offered by LSS include adoption, pregnancy counseling, foster care, kinship services, childcare & education, disaster response, mental health counseling, Fatherhood & Re-entry Services, Center for Financial Resources, residential services for children & youth, alternatives to detention, independent living services for young adults, mentoring, Better Together and Center for New Americans. LSS serves people of all ages, races, faiths and economic levels with professional, confidential and affordable services. LSS services are licensed by the State of South Dakota and accredited by the Council on Accreditation. LSS is a United Way agency.
