Unpredictability of Disasters Should Encourage Financial Preparedness Before Events Happen.
As LSS continues to provide disaster recovery management across South Dakota, emergency preparedness has been identified as a key resource in expediting financial recovery efforts. Securing personal information and resources prior to an event provides the necessary contact and account information to speed a family’s rebuilding.
The Center for Financial Resources’ (CFR) Associate Director Jesse Hall has been visiting affected communities to aid in financial recovery. “Life happens and our worlds can be turned upside down in an instant. While there is no way to plan for everything, some simple preparedness can help lighten the load when facing these adversities,” says Hall.
Toward this end, the CFR encourages families prepare a ‘Red File’ for emergency situations. This is a semi-secure collection of critical information kept in a small safe that is still accessible in an evacuation situation. Information on the Red Files, suggested contents, and other financial recovery information can be obtained by contacting the CFR at 605-330-2700.
