Each year, Lutheran Social Services recognizes a distinguished congregational partner in honor of outstanding service and support to LSS.
2011 DISTINGUISHED CONGREGATIONAL PARTNER
Grace Lutheran Church, Sturgis
Grace Lutheran Church of Sturgis was recognized as the 2011 LSS Distinguished Congregational Partner of the Year. They have been instrumental in the growth of Lutheran Social Services in Western South Dakota. Their most thoughtful and beneficial contribution has been to provide confidential office space for counseling services. Each week, a counselor travels from Rapid City to Sturgis to make it convenient for clients. Some of these clients would not have the financial means to travel to Rapid City to receive needed services.
The Women of the ELCA of Grace Lutheran contribute both in-kind and financial gifts to LSS. Their financial support helps offset the cost of needed counseling for clients in the Sturgis area. And, young adults in the Supportive Housing, Stepping Stones and foster care programs enjoy the warmth and comfort from donated hand-made quilts and other much needed and necessary household items.
Each year, LSS can count on faithful and loyal donors from Grace Lutheran to participate in the West River Benefit Event, and the church has continued the commitment by granting an LSS Sunday to increase awareness. As a smaller church, it is wonderful they could lead by example in serving others.
Each year, employees, volunteers, community and corporate partners and many others have supported LSS in a variety of ways—building a strong foundation and tradition of serving those in need. The results of their actions cannot possibly be calculated numerically. Yet their efforts are vital in helping individuals, families and communities find inner strength during difficult and challenging times. LSS is grateful for all who have given in one way or another.
Last year, more than 56,000 lives were touched through a variety of services offered through LSS statewide. Core services offered by LSS include adoption, pregnancy counseling, foster care, childcare, disaster response, consumer credit counseling, residential services for children and youth, mentoring, refugee and immigration services, affordable housing, and mental health counseling. LSS serves people of all ages, races, faiths and economic levels with professional, confidential and affordable services. LSS is licensed by the State of South Dakota and accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
