Ribbon Cutting for LSS Northeast Region Office in Aberdeen

The formal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota’s Northeast Region office in Aberdeen will be held Monday, April 4 at 110 6th Ave. SE, Suite 200. Tours will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the ceremony commences at noon. A light lunch will be served.
This is the first of three regional service areas established by LSS of SD in an effort to improve efficiency of program administration through service alignment, and to enhance fundraising and community relations. LSS will continue to offer current services, ascertain needs, develop programs as needed and raise donated funds to support these services. LSS currently provides a variety of services in the northeast region including the following:
Individual, marriage and family counseling helps people work through their issues and strengthen their lives. LSS is a comprehensive family service agency providing guidance, hope and healing for people of all ages, races, faiths and economic levels with professional, confidential and affordable services (sliding fee scale available). LSS also offers mental health counseling for referred students in the school setting in Aberdeen public and private schools, Frederick, Groton, Redfield, Mobridge, Ipswich and Warner.
Residential and Day Services for Youth
New Beginnings Center is a group care facility licensed to serve boys and girls ages 10 to 17 who have emotional, behavioral and educational challenges. LSS youth residential centers serve youth who need emergency shelter, assessments, respite care, transitional care and long-term treatment. New Beginnings Center offers a comprehensive treatment program, a specialized education program and opportunities for community involvement.
Serving birth parents and adoptive families, these services allow infants and children who need homes to join loving, welcoming families. LSS provides open adoptions as well as domestic and international adoptions.
LSS of SD offers free and confidential pregnancy counseling. A counselor can assist in sorting through all the options and provide accurate information about the different choices available.
Consumer Credit Counseling
CCCS provides free and low cost services including individual budget counseling, student loan counseling, foreclosure prevention, reverse mortgage counseling, debt management, bankruptcy as well as homebuyer and community education. These services are specifically designed to help clients take control of their financial future.
Refugee and Immigration Services
Refugee and Immigration programs provide a wide range of services for refugees and immigrants. Services to refugees and immigrants include case management, employment, English language training, interpreter services and immigration legal services – based from Sioux Falls and Huron. These are also available for expansion in areas where the need arises. In Aberdeen, LSS provides interpreting services and diversity training.
Juvenile Corrections Aftercare
LSS counselors work with youth who are returning to their communities from the juvenile corrections system, providing aftercare, support and follow-up to help youth successfully re-integrate into their home communities.
Family Based Counseling
LSS counselors work with families at risk of having their child placed outside their home by providing intense in-home family therapy. Designed for families with children age 5 to 18, LSS therapists use family strengths as a catalyst for change.
LSS is available to assist individuals, families, congregations and communities through a natural disaster or the changing rural conditions affecting many South Dakotans. LSS of SD networks closely with Lutheran Disaster Response, Volunteer Organizations Assisting in time of Disaster (VOAD), and state, local and other faith-based disaster relief programs when disaster occurs.
Supportive Housing Program
LSS established a Supportive Housing Program to help individuals or pregnant/ parenting women who are homeless. Through this program, LSS helps young people obtain safe and reliable housing as well as education and counseling to transition into permanent housing and become self-sufficient.
Community Resource Person
For youth in foster care or residential treatment, the teen years are a critical time for gaining the skills they will need to live independently as successful adults. The LSS Community Resource Person in their region helps foster youth learn independent living skills, connect with community resources, and plan for education and careers.
Employee Assistance Programs
LSS counselors provide EAP services as a worksite resource for organizations designed to enhance employee health and productivity through prevention, identification, and resolution of personal and family problems that might interfere with work. Employees are encouraged to seek personal consultation when difficulties arise to prevent more serious problems from developing.
Last year, more than 56,000 lives were touched through a variety of services offered through LSS statewide. LSS serves people of all ages, races, faiths and economic levels with professional, confidential and affordable services. LSS is governed by a statewide Board of Directors, and is licensed by the State of South Dakota and accredited by the Council on Accreditation. LSS is a United Way agency.
