Mentor Program Seeks Volunteers
Posted on 08/05/2011
Lutheran Social Services Mentoring Programs are seeking volunteers to serve as mentors for the upcoming school year. The program matches adult volunteers with students in ten area school districts, including the Sioux Falls School District.
Individuals who complete the application and training process between now and August 20 will be eligible for a drawing for two lower level tickets to the September 1 Minnesota Vikings game. Individuals completing the process in the month of September will be eligible to win gift certificates.
Volunteers spend an hour a week with their student throughout the school year. Mentors and students participate in a variety of activities together, such as reading, playing board games, shooting hoops, or simply hanging out and talking. Many mentors choose to volunteer over their lunch break from work.
The program operates in school districts across Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties. To mentor a student in your community, contact Lutheran Social Services. Applications and more information can be found at www.lsssd.org or by calling 221-2403.
