Consumer Credit Counseling Service Welcomes Public to Protect Identity at Events

October 20-27, 2012 is National Protect Your Identity Week
Statistics from the Federal Trade Commission show that about 19 people fall victim to identity theft every minute. South Dakotans must take steps to protect themselves and Lutheran Social Services Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) is here to help. As part of National Protect Your Identity Week (October 20-27, 2012), CCCS has teamed up with national and local partners to provide residents with a means to protect, defend, and deter.
CCCS will host the following free events during National Protect Your Identity Week:
Seminar on Identity Theft Protection
Monday, October 22, 5:30 pm at the Sioux Falls Main Library
Sergeant Bob Harrison of the Sioux Falls Police Department will speak on the best practices to protect against identity theft. Registration is encouraged; all ages are welcome to attend.
Electronics Recycling Drive
Monday, October 22, 5:30-7:30 pm at the Sioux Falls Main Library
Millennium Recycling will collect old CPUs, laptops, hard drives, flash drives, and CD-ROMs for data-secure recycling. No registration is required, public welcome. No business/commercial drop-offs please.
Data Shred Truck
Saturday, October 27, 10 am – noon at Active Generations, 2300 W 46th Street, Sioux Falls
Dakota Data Shred will collect up to 5 boxes of personal documents in the parking lot of Active Generations. Free! Fun for all!
Cell Phone Donation Drive
Monday, October 22-Thursday, October 25, 8 am - 8 pm and Friday, October 26, 8 am -5 pm at Lutheran Social Services, 705 E 41st Street, Suite 100, Sioux Falls
Verizon Wireless will clear personal information from all cell phones collected and donate phones to victims of domestic violence through its HopeLine initiative.
