Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota

Around the world, thousands of children are orphaned by war, disease and poverty. In the United States, couples and individuals wish to expand their families and share their love with a child. LSS is proud to be a part of the Lutheran Adoption Network (LAN), the largest adoption alliance in the United States. LAN has allowed LSS of South Dakota access to international adoption services directly with various countries around the world.

By collaborating with LAN, it is possible for LSS of South Dakota to facilitate international adoptions locally. Countries currently served through LAN include Bulgaria, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Moldova, Mongolia, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine.

In the past, international adoptions have been difficult because each of the many agencies around the world have different rules and requirements. Now, for families wishing to adopt, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota will help you through every step of the process, including preparing families for the unknown, such as language barriers, legal processes and more.

LSS of South Dakota also provides professional home study, coordination and post-placement services to families adopting from another international adoption agency outside of the Lutheran Adoption Network. Those adopting must meet the requirements of SD Department of Social Services, Immigration Services and the child's country of origin.

LSS of South Dakota will work only with placement resources who are licensed by the state in which the agency resides.
