Adoption and Birth Parent Counseling Services are based on a tradition of concern for children. For more than 80 years, LSS has found families for children, counseled birth parents and offered services for those adopted. In 1939, LSS became the first child placement agency licensed in South Dakota. Through the years, many young mothers found compassion and adoptive couples were able to realize their dreams of parenthood. Professional and dedicated service has resulted in building families–one child at a time.

Lutheran Social Services offers services:

• For families looking to adopt a child domestically or internationally.
• For birth families facing difficult decisions regarding an unintended pregnancy.
• For individuals and their families who have been adopted and are searching for information about their birth families.
• For health care professionals who desire to learn more about the infant adoption through the Infant Adoption Training Initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and implemented by Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

LSS is licensed by the State of South Dakota as a child placement agency and accredited by the council of Accreditation for Children and Family Services. LSS social workers are licensed by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners.
