Anger Management & Domestic Violence Program
Watertown Outpatient Services

Watertown Area Counseling Center has been providing an Anger Management & Domestic Violence Program for more than 16 years. The program has evolved from the Duluth Model to incorporating the Corrective Thinking Model and the Men’s At Work Model into its programming. The program goals are to reduce violent behavior and to manage anger.

We are now implementing the MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy) model into our program. This model will be the major focus while incorporating elements from using other models. Research confirms that the MRT model significantly reduces behaviors that could lead to re-offending.

MRT is a systematic, step by step treatment strategy designed to enhance self image, promote growth of a positive, productive identity and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning.

The twelve steps of MRT are described as follows:

Step 1: Honesty
A person strives at being honest with self and others
Step 2: Trust
A person learns to trust the rules of society and other people.
Step 3: Acceptance
A person needs to accept that he/she is the problem in society.
A person needs to know he/she needs to follow the rules.
Step 4: Awareness
Once a person becomes honest, trustworthy and accepts reality. He/she is aware of all the things in life.
Step 5: Healing damaged relationships - remove the guilt.
Step 6: Helping others, which is to help the person feel better about self.
Step 7: Long term goals and identity.
Step 8: Short term goals and consistency.
Step 9: Commitment to change
Step 10: Maintain positive change
Step 11: Keeping moral commitments.
Step 12: Choosing moral goals.

LSS is currently facilitating an adult group in Watertown which meets on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 p.m.
