LSS Refugee and Immigration Programs serve families who have faced tremendous hardships and have overcome extreme obstacles. They hang on to the hope of finding a safe home. LSS strives to provide that second chance in which people can again feel the fullness of life.

LSS Refugee and Immigration Programs provide a wide range of services for newcomers to South Dakota. Many of the services are specific to refugees, while other services are also available to immigrants.

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota comes to the aid of refugees and immigrants coming to our state. LSS’s Refugee & Immigration programs also serve the community in a variety of ways.

Refugees are people who have been forced to flee their homeland because of war and persecution. They go to other countries like the United States for safety. Services to refugees include case management, employment and English language training.

Immigrants are people who come to the United States by choice and sometimes for the same reasons as refugees. Services to immigrants include case management, English language training, immigration and interpreter.

LSS helps many individuals and organizations that serve people with limited English skills. Such organizations include community service providers, employers, hospitals, schools and law enforcement.
