Residential
Services For Children And Youth
Today’s families often struggle with the challenges of our society. LSS helps strengthen families through individual and family counseling and education services. Intervention services such as Diversion Programs, Home Based Counseling, and Day Treatment are available to get the child and family back on track. Treatment Foster Care also is available for children and families whose needs are overwhelming and critical. For children who are unable to function in a home and need a structured, supervised environment, residential care becomes a vital resource. LSS Residential Centers provide 24-hour care for youth ages 10 to 17 who have been abused, neglected, and abandoned. LSS serves children who have emotional, behavioral, and addiction problems. And, LSS serves children who have experienced violence and trauma. Last year, LSS served approximately 250 children through four residential treatment and group care facilities. Locations include Canyon Hills, Spearfish; New Beginnings, Aberdeen; Summit Oaks, Sioux Falls; and Woodfield, Beresford. The LSS Residential care treatment principles are based on Reality Therapy/Choice Theory. Children and families are encouraged to learn and practice responsible decision making, develop self-respect, and build healthy relationships in a structured and supportive environment. Residential
