Rehling Earns HUD Counselor Certification, July 5, 2018

LSS CFR Counselor is One of the First In South Dakota

Randy Rehling, a consumer credit counselor with LSS Center for Financial Resources (CFR), has passed the exam to be a HUD-certified counselor. One of the very first in South Dakota to pass the exam, Rehling is leading the way for both CFR and South Dakota housing counseling agencies.

The LSS Center for Financial Resources has long been a HUD-approved counseling agency. While maintaining the agency approval, HUD is adding an individual certification element. The individual HUD certification is the result of an extensive, proctored exam over 6 key areas:

1. Financial Management
2. Property Maintenance
3. Responsibilities of Homeownership and Tenancy
4. Fair Housing Laws and Requirements
5. Housing Affordability
6. Avoidance Of and Responses To Rental and Mortgage Delinquency, Eviction, and Mortgage Default

HUD has set a deadline of August 2020 to have all existing housing counselors certified through their exam. CFR has chosen to lead the way with a goal of having all housing counselors certified through the HUD exams by the end of 2018. For CFR counselors, this individual HUD certification is in addition to certifications through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and NeighborWorks’ NCHEC certification.
